The Pittsburgh North Optimist Paddle Tournament was a Smashing Success
It was a perfect day weather-wise at the Field Club for paddle tennis – cold in the morning with a few furries but warming to near 50 degrees in the afternoon with partly sunny skies. Thanks to club members John Bongiovanni and Carlin Campbell for resurrecting the same tournament the club had sponsored for 15 years straight. The last one the club did was in 2007, 16 years ago. Twenty-six players competed this year - 15 men and 11 women. Congratulations to the winners, Chris Duer and Ben Kessing, who beat Kevin McKamish and Tommy Leach in the finals. The winners of the consolation flight were Arjun Grover and Jonathon Thomas, who beat Carlin Campbell and Cynthia Lackey in their final match.
Thanks to our prize sponsor - Gamma Sports, beer sponsor – Frank B. Fuhrer Wholesale, Inc.; bar sponsors -Dennis Cestra, Greg Green, and Thomas Leach; and ball sponsor – Carlin Campbell. Thanks also to the Pittsburgh Field Club and all the club volunteers and participants that helped to make this tournament a success and helped to raise over $2,000 that the club will use to help fund its many youth and community programs this year.
We look forward to continuing this fun event every year!
